On September 30th, Louis Tomlinson released the single “Lemonade” to tease his upcoming album, How Did I Get Here? – releasing in January of 2026. This poppy sounding track starts off with some cowbell hits that get faster and faster leading into an electric guitar riff. These tones bring us into a party scene where Louis is focused on a woman that can show him a bit of fun. He is hypnotized by this woman and adds sexual and scandalous tones into his night by mentioning over and over again that she tastes like lemonade. As the song goes on, he continues to share lyrics that reiterate his pull to this woman. He wonders if he is going crazy or trying too hard when he says “Is it only human to escape into delusion?” Followed by the lines “And if I should try to prove it/Would I win more or would I lose it?” This, to me, that he is nervous to try to justify his actions because thinking too much into them might affect him negatively. Following this is a short break filled by synthy spaceship noises and a final repetition of the chorus.
Overall, this track is meant to be a teaser for the new album and draw listeners in. It is a fun and semi-meaningless tune that people can dance to; it’s catchy but doesn’t have much depth. Aside from the other former members of One Direction, Louis’ solo music is a bit of a pivot from original 1D classics. He has spent a few years trying to figure out his individual style and it is possible that this new album can be right for him. Personally, I would love to see similar work from him that resonate with the Walls album that he released as his debut solo album in 2020. Some favorites of mine include, “Don’t Let It Break Your Heart,” “Always You,” and “Too Young.”
