Laundry Day

The Under 1M Spotlight is a band that originates from Manhattan’s finest, Beacon High School. LAUNDRY DAY has recently released their 6th studio album this past October. These four guys are super underrated and fun. They’re pretty well known for their parody videos that they post on TikTok where they sing acapella/annoying voice versions of really popular songs outside on the streets of New York City. My friend from NYC always forces me to listen to them and always says “come on come on, they go to my sister’s high school,” and I’m glad she does because these boys are super funny and they make good music.

LAUNDRY DAY’s song “FRIENDS” off of the HOMESICK album gained popularity in 2019, trending on TikTok. Today it has over 22 million streams on Spotify. This song is so interesting because the intro is super sentimental sounding with the crashes and the horns. All the noise slows and we’re taken on a trip to the lead singer’s old living area on the West End of Manhattan. This place reminds us of a time with little stressors and care-free happiness. He thinks about being a young kid that didn’t love school but values it because it’s where he met his friends. The rest of the verses are more stories about all the fun things the friends did together as young kids in New York City that had no worries. The line “Guess we ran out of songs” signifies the idea that all good things must come to an end, but he knows that “We gon’ be alright” because there are always things to look forward to and as long as they stay committed to their relationships with each other. Repeating, “Name a time and place we’ll be fine” they make this promise.

More recently, from LAUNDRY DAY’s latest release EARWORM, the song “SUPERMODEL” has gained attention. This is a fun song with not too much meaning. It is a classic bass line tune that focuses on a woman and the way she amazes a boy and takes his breath away. He admires the way she dances, walks, and talks and her personality. He reveals that she makes him quite nervous and swears he would never do wrong by her. The bridge is a description of a date he plans to take her on in order to impress her. Again and again he praises her looks and swagger by repeating the chorus of “You’re a supermodel for sure.”
