Lucky – Renee Rapp

On October 30th, Reneé Rapp released a single “Lucky” from the new movie “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.” The movie is a crime/thriller and it releases in theaters November 14th. Although I am on the bandwagon that Reneé Rapp should be transitioning into an R&B/Soul artist, I did really enjoy this track. It’s a bit of a pop throwback feeling that get’s me excited for the adrenaline that the film may present.

The intro fires in with an up-down power chord sequence that reminds me a lot of P!nk’s song “Walk Of Shame” from The Truth About Love album. The lyrics don’t have much meaning behind them besides the fact that the main character is a badass. The scene this track might play in will probably be some sort of car chase or a strut down the street. There’s a feeling of swagger that radiates off the lyrics “Cause I’m so fly, and I’m so money” and “But I don’t leave a scratch when I crash my car.” There’s also touches of self awareness and narcissism in the lines “I’ve never been too good at listenin/ I’m good at gettin what I want” telling us that the main character of this movie is probably super selfish in a cool way that convinces the audience not to hate them. The bridge is an entire section of Reneé chanting about how awesome Reneé is. But again, something about it just like “Walk Of Shame,” screams this girl is a mess, but at least she’s charming.
