Timeflow

Timeflow is a new artist that I’ve been looking at and he has just under 10,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. In 2024, he released his debut album “Liminality.” Since this, he has recently released a single, “Do You Remember?” on October 25th of this year. Most of his music gives the feel of a one man show or a garage band and I would say he has made a decent start for himself.

In exploring his music, I chose to take a closer look at his song “Distant Memory,” which is his most popular. I really like the acoustic-electric guitar sound that opens up the track. It makes us feel like we are in a bit of a time warp looking back on a feeling from another time, giving the name Timeflow some meaning. The type of language he uses in the lyrics is simple, but evokes different kinds of thoughts and second guesses. He wonders, “Do you still think about we were together?” Because he admits “Cause I lay awake/Wondering whether/ What you meant when/ You said you’d be here forever.” This tells us that he is constantly remembering and thinking over how an ex feels in comparison to himself. He overthinks everything she has ever said and wishes he could know what her intentions were. The chorus is a bit of a depressing callout to his ex lover who fell for someone else. He knows she probably doesn’t care, but wonders if she had another chance with him, if she would take it instead of moving on. He admits in the next verse that he too has tried to move on with other people but his mind always goes back to her. He considered her one of his best friends and relied on her and now he believes that it is all in the past and he is left with nothing but his own thoughts. The last two repetitions of the chorus into an outro leaves the audience with Timeflow’s version of the memory that was his relationship. It is apparent that we most likely will never hear her side of the story, leaving it all up for interpretation.

This Tame Impala esq artist is definitely headed in the right direction. He kind of reminds me of a more alternative version of Sombr and has a ton of potential. Go listen to his music if you love those two artists!
