Coming in with another Under 1M Spotlight, Devvy Dub! Devvy is a genre blend of Alternative Pop, Indie, and Hip-Hop. So far he has about 150k monthly listeners on Spotfiy and he has just released his EP, Hero. The EP is a Dominic Fike adjacent vibe with 6 chaotic songs. Good thing I love chaos. For this release I’ve chosen to take a deeper look into the song “Stereo.” Devvy has been teasing this one on TikTok for weeks so let’s get right into it now that we have the whole thing.

We head straight in with a swingy but steady drum beat. Devvy sets out the ground rules for the night. In a cool way, he makes it clear that he doesn’t do drugs but he wants to have fun with a drink and someone special. This person entices him. He needs to know more about her. The chorus following this has techno power chord patterns and a groovy melody focused on the vibes of the stereo. The next verse is a morning routine description and the simplicity of being young. He describes his simple likes and dislikes of life, almost as if he is advertising himself for people to get to know him and feel connected. He is super positive and optimistic in the lines “I like to dream real big and aim real high.” This sets the tone for his career and musical goals in general, telling us that he has hope for his dreams to come true one day because his heart is in it. He reveals a bit about his love life in the line “And I think we’re friends, but when I talk to other girls you’re dramatic/ But I’ll take your hand only if you let me have it.” He’s telling us that he has feelings for a girl but is interested in a casual, no pressure relationship. He is just looking to vibe and be chill with someone. The repetition of the chorus revolving around the stereo tells me that he feels life has so many moving parts but most important to him is the music. \
