Homewrecker – Sombr

The brand new sensation Sombr has been releasing music for a short amount of time but has gained rapid popularity in the last year. Personally, I have not been much of a fan but, his new single “Homewrecker” is an undoubtedly catchy song that has taken over Tiktok for the last week. On February 5th, Sombr finally stopped teasing this track and put it out to the world. 

The intro begins with a vibey “Ooh-ooh-ooh” and an ode to someone special yet confusing. Comparing this person to a drunk cigarette is a bit contradictory depending on how much you enjoy that. Sombr reveals that every time he engages with her he is “filled with regret.” The uncertainty really seems to bother him yet he still goes after her. Almost begging, the chorus sings “Do you got plans for life? Cause I don’t wanna just romance tonight.” He is desperate to have more time with her and doesn’t really care what gets in the way. He insists that they would be good together but the chorus reveals that them being together would ruin another relationship. Even in regards to this, Sombr insists that he “can be better” (than whoever the current lover is). The second verse tells us that the two spend a lot of time together and have meaningful conversations but they always end with her leaving to go back to her lover. The bridge is a confession that he feels insignificant to her being only her friend and companion. He desires more than this and for a long time. The final repetition of the chorus is an installation of catchiness in whoever is listening. Real talk, the song does not have much depth or really even intricate lyrics but it does play in everyone’s mind all day long.
