The second single released off of the upcoming you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love album is titled “the cure.” The cure of what, we are all wondering? Multiple days of marketing involving images of Liv in a hospital, playing the part of a nurse or doctor in an abandoned-looking building, gave off the vibe before the release that something had been severely broken and was in need of medicine.
A quick downward strumming opens us up with an emo feel and a high-pitched, jealous Olivia. She describes the feeling of thinking she finally found the way to make herself happy. She opens up about her loneliness and the way her anxiety crashes down on her, telling us that her “head is filled with poison,” which this person tries so hopelessly to cure. Her bad thoughts are uncontrollable, and she is painfully aware of it. The strumming of the guitar continuously picks up, presenting this lingering feeling of weight.
The second verse dives deeper into the doubtful things Olivia does in her mind and the way it tears her apart and destroys her relationships. Screaming out “I’m unraveled” with distortion that actually sounds like unraveling, she goes straight into another chorus that instills the overall message that she feels hopeless. Repeating the “I’m unraveled” bit once more with even more buildup and an even stronger chorus really beats it in: she feels unfixable. No matter how hard someone loves her, she still feels negative and numb to it all.
