Another single is released off of Daughter From Hell, and more context is gained. Compared to “Hit The Wall,” this track is more of a transparency about what we’re talking about. She admits feelings of feeling incomplete even in the midst of complete and utter success. That synth open and Gracie’s immediate question of how long her fame and happiness will last brings back in that theme of self deprecation. She wonders if it is apparent to the outside viewer that she is freaking out inside, but she does not actually want the answer. That kick speed up of the drums brings us into a classic Gracie chorus, a chant about being a mess and crashing out, the thing that makes her most relatable to her audience. Telling us that she might just “shut up and drive” is relatable on another level, telling people that she too wishes to clear her head this way sometimes.
She describes in the next verse the feeling of being inside a party with A listers and not having the capacity to be around it anymore. The small talk. Joking about taking drugs to fix it all. She is dying for anything to lessen the anxiety of the combined mess of noise and voices. Also revealing that this crumbling is her “nightmare actualized,” and that she “got what I wanted” and “it doesn’t sit right.” Showing us all that you can achieve your wildest dreams with the feeling that something is still off. The continuous “bum bum bum” taking us through the bridge encourages this continuous run on thought of running away from it all and never looking back. But she knows that it doesn’t matter where she is or what she is doing, because she will judge and be hard on herself either way. Closing it out repeating “Got what I wanted / It doesn’t sit right” over and over, to leave us off with that one feeling of discomfort even if it’s all going well.
